I was able to get the system back to stability by running:Ĭontrol Panel > System and Security > Security & Maintenance, Maintenance (manual kicked off) Figuring something that took down so many apps so quickly might be security software related, I uninstalled Norton 360 Security, ran Microsoft Defender (after updating to current), it indicated no problems, did short and full scans both. I ran Windows Update (subsequently), it completed, also no problems indicated. ![]() ![]() As near as I can figure, this behavior started (or was first noticed) after a TurboTax 2020 update (no errors indicated). Settings > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters, Windows Update (crashes after a few seconds)įor most of these, I see the application launch, it will start up or start coming up, sometimes get to a first screen, then a few seconds later, it crashes. Windows seems to restart, more or less normally (some startup programs crash)Ĭontrol Panel > Troubleshoot > System and Security, Fix Problems with Windows Update (crashes) Launch window might come up, sometimes App will start to show data or whatever, but a bit after that, the window disappears (mostly the hourglass never disappears while launching). I have a Windows 10 system that was running fine until recently, where most applications are crashing, 2-3 seconds after they launch.
